A native of Easton, Pa., Dan marched soprano bugle with the Chessmen Pawns Drum and Bugle Corps before moving to Florida in 1975. As a trumpet player at Jeff Davis Middle School, he joined the Florida Vanguards Drum and Bugle Corps in 1978 at the age of 13, where he rose to lead soprano in 1979 and he was instructed by DCI hall of famer Jim Ott.
While attending John I. Leonard High School, he played lead trumpet and also converted to percussion in his junior and senior year, doubling as a trumpet soloist on the field, and writing and arranging the marching percussion charts for the band.
He played lead soprano in the inaugural year of the Florida Wave Drum and Bugle Corps.
He attended the University of Miami as a Studio Music and Jazz major. Taking a break from music, he spent 10 years in the U.S. Navy as a combat systems technician and operator.
In 2001, he became the Percussion Caption Head at Lake Worth High School for 3 years.
In 2006, he was recruited to be the Percussion Caption and Arranger for Jupiter High School. In 2011, he reverted back to his first love, brass, becoming the brass instructor of the perennial State Finalist Spirit of Jupiter.
