Michael James is from Orlando, Florida and graduated from the University of
South Florida where he received a BA for Modern Dance Performance. Mr. James
has performed and choreographed for the American Stage Company in St.
Petersburg for their Shakespeare in their Park Series, as well as their
Children’s Theater Tour of “The Long One.”
Michael was a scholarship student at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in
Beckett, Massachusetts, where he studied under Linda Kent and Carolyn Adams.
He was also a member of National and International touring company of The
Men Dancers of Jacob’s Pillow. This opportunity allowed him to dance and
teach in St. Petersburg, Russia. Michael was also a member of Repertory
Dance Theatre of Utah and also has danced at Downtown Disney’s Pleasure
Island Explosion Dancers, WDW Animal Kingdom’s “Tarzan Rocks!” And “The
Beauty and the Beast at Hollywood Studios.
As a color guard designer and choreographer, Mr. James was the Designer/Caption Head for Timber Creek HS (FL) 2004-2015, Freedom HS (Orlando FL) 2003-2015, and Cypress Creek HS (FL) 1997-2016. He is currently the designer/choreographer for Oviedo HS (FL), University HS (FL), and the University of South Florida Marching Band and Winterguard. He’s also worked with Seminole HS (FL), Tarpon Springs (FL), Father Ryan HS (TN), Americus HS
(TX), Spring HS (TX), Union HS (OK), Sunlake HS (FL), Pope HS (GA), Kennesaw Mountain HS (GA), and He’s also on staff with The Santa Clara Vanguard 2003-2004, 2016- present, Carolina Crown 1996, The Cavaliers 1997 & 2002,
Phantom Regiment 2005-2015 Mr. James was inducted into Florida Federation of Color Guard Hall of Fame in 2012.
