Uniforms

glitter-graphics-music-587681Each Jupiter High School performance ensemble has its own unique performance (or concert) attire.

The uniforms for every performance group are listed on this page (and in the Band Handbook).  The Band Director will inform students if there are changes to these requirements prior to performances.  See the Forms page for any forms referenced below.

Band members and parents are kept informed of deadlines and requirements for uniforms via email. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for caring for their uniforms, meeting deadlines, and taking pride in their performance attire.

ALL parts of the uniform should cleaned and pressed before each performance, especially tux shirts and pants.

If you have ANY questions regarding uniforms, please contact Debbie Wiley at wileydebbie@bellsouth.net.

Uniforms for Instrumentalists

The instrumentalist (not Color Guard) marching band uniform consists of:

  • Green JHS garment bag – provided to new members as part of Fair Share, used to store and transport competition uniform
  • Shako (hat) – provided by school, keep in plastic box
  • Plume – provided by school at performances
  • Jacket – provided by school, kept in garment bag
  • Bibbers (overall pants) – provided by school, kept in garment bag
  • Show Top – customized yearly for each show; provided by school, kept in garment bag
  • Undergarments (compression shirt and other TBD) – custom ordered through band
  • Socks (black calf-length socks) – must be purchased by student from any store
  • Gloves – 2-3 pairs of black gloves must be purchased by student through the school, keeping a new spare pair in garment bag for back up; battery and pit/front ensemble students do not wear gloves as part of their uniform
  • Shoes (Black Vipers) – must be purchased by student
  • Show shirt – t-shirt specific to current year’s show; one shirt provided by school as part of the Fair Share and extras can be purchased from the uniform chairperson

At the beginning of marching season, students will be measured and fitted for uniforms.

Some uniform pieces may be provided by the school and will be assigned to each student by the Band Uniform Team. Students and parents are required to sign and return a Marching Band Uniform Contract acknowledging responsibility for care of the uniform for the year.

Depending on the show, band members may wear additional uniform items, and members of the pit may wear different uniforms entirely.

Students are responsible for cleaning and taking proper care of their uniforms during the marching season and ensuring they show up for each performance with their complete uniform ensemble.  This includes ALL dry cleaning fees.

The uniform should be stored and transported to/from school and competitions in a JHS Band logoed garment bag.  New Spirit of Jupiter members will receive their first bag without charge as part of the Fair Share.  Additional garment bags are available for purchase.

Marching Band Uniform Care Instructions are provided when uniforms are distributed.  Uniforms are returned to the school after marching season.  Jackets and bibbers must be dry cleaned and returned in a dry cleaning bag with receipt attached.

Black Viper marching band shoes are ordered online from any of these links:

Be sure to order BLACK shoes.  Information about a possible bulk order will be emailed over the summer.  These should be ordered over the summer so they are available for the first marching band dress rehearsal, usually in August before the first football game.

Color Guard Uniforms

Color Guard change with the marching band show every year.  Students are measured by volunteer guard parents. Guard members are responsible for caring for their uniforms and meeting the requirements set by their directors.

The Color Guard marching band uniform typically consists of:

  • Green JHS garment bag – provided to new members as part of Fair Share, used to store and transport competition uniform
  • Costume – custom ordered through band and purchased by student
  • Performance shoes – custom ordered through band and purchased by student
  • Undergarments (compression shirt/shorts for boys and body tight for girls) – custom ordered through band and purchased by student
  • Ever Dri Gloves – custom ordered through band and purchased by student
  • Show shirt – t-shirt specific to current year’s show; one shirt provided by school as part of the Fair Share and extras can be purchased from the uniform chairperson

Marching Band Casual Uniform

As part of the Fair Share, all marching band students are provided with one white JHS Band-logoed t-shirt and one pair of green (for instrumentalists) or black (for color guard) JHS Band-logoed shorts.

This uniform is REQUIRED to be worn at certain events, including Warrior Welcome and the Homecoming parade.  It is strongly suggested that students wear this uniform ONLY for required performances and not for rehearsals.

Additional shirts and shorts are available to purchase through the band.

Marching Band Rehearsal/Practice Uniform

As part of the Fair Share, all marching band students are provided with two white JHS Band-logoed t-shirts and one pair of green (for instrumentalists) or black (for color guard) JHS Band-logoed shorts.

For summer band camps and all marching band rehearsals, students are required to wear:

  • Green or Black JHS Band-logoed Shorts (or plain green or black shorts) – Green shorts are worn by instrumentalists; Black shorts are worn by color guard members.
  • JHS Band-logoed white t-shirt (or plain white t-shirt) – No cut up shirts are permitted
  • Sneakers with arch support for marching on pavement – No high tops, skate shoes, or open-toed shoes
  • Socks – wear socks to prevent blisters
  • White or light-colored cap – This cap is very important to avoid sun overexposure. You MUST have a light-colored cap.

Medallion Sporting Goods on Indiantown Road in Jupiter offers a discount on the green and black shorts worn for practice.  Be sure to tell the clerk at check out that you are part of the Jupiter High School Marching Band, and they will give you the TEAM discount (about 10% off).
